52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks - Week 14 - This week’s theme is “Begins with a Vowel”

My maternal grandmother’s mother was Ada Indiana Ratcliff Euler. Her father was Silas Ratcliff, born in Indiana and raised in the Society of Friends. When he was read out of his monthly meeting he moved to Kansas, or maybe he was read out of the meeting because he moved West, where he met the widow Johanna Louisa Fredericka Byer Blum and her daughter, Laura. They made their home in Troy County, Kansas. Grandma told me that one of the stories her mother, Ada, told was that they were raised in the Quaker traditions and weren’t allowed to play cards. Ada passed away about 10 years before I was born and when my own mother was still a little girl. I would love the opportunity to sit and have coffee or tea with Grandma Ada so we could talk about her childhood memories and maybe find out why her father left Indiana.

Until next time…

Happy Hunting!!
