52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks – Week 22 – This Week’s Theme is “At the Cemetery”

I would love to visit the family cemeteries in Lee County, Virginia.  Specifically, the Burchett and Cunningham cemeteries.  This year for Memorial Day, we visited the Smith Cemetery in Skidmore, MO.  I knew the cemetery existed and I knew that my 2x great grandparents, Joseph T. and Elizabeth (Sharp) Linville, were buried there, but had never been there and didn’t know for sure where the cemetery was located.  While putting out flowers at the Hillcrest Cemetery, where many of my maternal and paternal families are buried, we visited with a cousin who directed us to the Smith Cemetery.  We found the cemetery with no problems and immediately found my 2x Great Grandparents.  As I explored the other markers, I found a stone for Miranda Sharp.  She is the mother of Elizabeth, making her my 3x Great-Grandmother.  Hers is now the oldest ancestor who’s grave I have personally seen. I thought that was one of the coolest pieces of history that I have found in my research journey.  Later, we went to the Prairie Home Cemetery, located in Graham, Missouri, where I had a record of Eddie Jones, a brother to my Great-grandfather, John Jones, but had never been able to find the stone.  This trip, however, proved successful and I was finally able to photograph his stone and uploaded it to Find-a-Grave.  One more puzzle solved, but there are so many more that need my attention.

Until Next Time.

Happy Hunting!
